Questions following your treatment? Here are some answers!

How can I reduce swelling or bruising after dermal fillers?

Swelling and bruising are common side effects after dermal filler injections, but they usually subside within a few days. Here are a few tips to minimize them:

  • Apply a cold compress: Gently applying an ice pack or cold compress to the treated areas can help reduce swelling. Be sure to wrap the ice pack in a cloth to protect your skin.

  • Elevate your head: Sleeping with your head elevated for the first few nights can help reduce swelling.

  • Avoid blood-thinning medications: If possible, avoid blood-thinning medications (like aspirin or ibuprofen) as they can increase the risk of bruising. However, consult your doctor before stopping any prescribed medication.

  • Use arnica cream: Some people find that arnica cream or supplements help reduce bruising and speed up recovery. Always consult your practitioner before using any products post-treatment.

Is it normal to feel lumps or bumps after dermal fillers?

It’s not uncommon to feel small lumps or firmness in the treated areas after dermal filler injections. These bumps are usually temporary and should soften over the following days as the filler integrates with your tissue. If they persist or cause discomfort, consult your practitioner for guidance.

When can I resume normal activities after getting dermal fillers?

You can typically resume most normal daily activities immediately after your treatment, but here are a few guidelines:

  • Exercise: Light activities are fine, but wait 24-48 hours before returning to strenuous exercise.

  • Work: You can return to work the same day, as long as you’re not doing anything that involves excessive physical exertion.

  • Makeup: You can apply makeup 6-12 hours after treatment, but use clean hands and brushes to avoid infection.

  • Social events: Swelling and bruising may be noticeable for a few days, so if you have an event, it's best to schedule your filler treatment at least a week in advance.

When will I see the final results from dermal fillers?

You may notice some immediate improvements after your treatment, but it can take up to 4 weeks for the full results to settle in. Swelling may temporarily alter the appearance, but once it subsides, you’ll see the final, natural-looking enhancement.

How long do dermal fillers last?

The longevity of dermal fillers varies depending on the type of filler used and the area treated. In general:

  • Lip fillers last around 12-18 months.

  • Cheek and under-eye fillers can last 12-18 months or longer.

  • Jawline or chin fillers may last up to 18 months.

Your practitioner will give you more specific guidance based on the type of filler used in your treatment.

How can I make my dermal fillers last longer?

To maximize the longevity of your dermal fillers, follow these tips:

  • Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water to maintain healthy skin and keep your fillers plump.

  • Avoid excessive sun exposure: UV rays can break down the fillers faster, so always wear sunscreen and avoid prolonged sun exposure.

  • Avoid smoking: Smoking can accelerate the breakdown of fillers and damage your skin.

  • Follow a good skincare routine: Using quality skincare products and maintaining a consistent routine can help prolong your results.

What should I do if I have concerns after my dermal filler treatment?

If you experience any unusual side effects, such as severe pain, prolonged swelling, or signs of infection (like redness, warmth, or pus), contact your practitioner immediately. They will be able to assess your concerns and provide appropriate care.

Your practitioner is always the best source of guidance after treatment, so don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or worries.
